FAQ – Shea Purity Products

Shea Butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea-Karite tree which is only found in Africa. The nuts are removed from their outer shell and crushed by hand so that they can be slowly roasted into smooth butter. It is then kneaded by hand in a large basin of water to separate the oils. It’s this fatty acid that gives Shea Butter its unique natural restorative properties and makes it far superior to other organic butter. Finally, the Shea Butter is removed from the top of the pot and cooled until it hardens.

Shea Butter is an all-natural organic product (edible), and as a result, one will vary slightly from another in smell, appearance, and quality. The majority of the Shea Butter variation found will depend on where the Shea Butter is produced and how it is refined.

All Shea Butter is not the same. Shea Butter loses some of its healing properties as it sits on the shelf, so old Shea Butter is not as beneficial as a newer batch. Refining techniques will also vary; highly processed Shea Butter will not be as effective as a more natural variety. Additives can also reduce its benefits.

There are also those products that add small amounts of Shea Butter but prominently display “Shea Butter” on their label. While Shea Butter is not very expensive, you should be aware of products that claim to provide the benefits of Shea Butter but sell for very low prices. Many manufacturers are taking advantage of the popularity of Shea Butter by adding a little Shea Butter to a very inexpensive product implying they can provide the benefits of Shea Butter in their product.

Shea Purity sources it’s Shea Butter only from reputable sources to ensure freshness, quality and the proper refining technique. This ensures that no contaminants remain, and that the “good stuff” is left in.

If Shea Butter has been refined, it has been through one or more chemical processes. This results in it losing some of its healing properties. It’s these healing properties, combined with the unparalleled moisturizing abilities that set Shea Butter apart from everything else.
Shea Butter has a very high “healing fraction”, up to 12% of the butter’s make-up (more than any other type of seed oil). These amazing healing properties have shown great success in treating various skin problems such as wrinkles, blemishes, skin allergies, eczema and other skin conditions. Shea Butter can be used when treating minor cuts, scrapes, and soothing sunburns. Shea Butter also has the ability to reduce inflammation, which makes Shea Butter the premiere product to speed the healing of skin that has undergone cosmetic surgery or tattooing.

Ingredients on the label should be listed in order from most composition to the least. Therefore, you should look for Shea Butter products that list Shea Butter early on the list of ingredients. You should know the ingredients before you buy any Shea Butter product and should only buy from a reputable source. The more Shea Butter in a product, the greater the likelihood you will receive its full benefits.

With all products please read the label clearly and all the ingredients listed before purchasing.

One of the great things about Shea Butter is it’s low melting point. When you apply it to your skin, it liquefies. Shea Purity products are all natural and do not do anything to change the properties inherent to Shea Butter. As such, your Shea Purity product is likely to melt in hot conditions. It may even melt when it’s delivered to you in the summer months. If this happens, don’t worry! The Shea Butter is still good. Just set it in the refrigerator until it gets hard again. As it begins to cool, you might want to give it a stir to ensure the Shea Butter is uniform throughout. Sometimes Shea Butter can become grainy. This isn’t a problem- it will melt and soften once rubbed in between your hands and used as normal.

Our products are made fresh with natural and organic ingredients and no harmful preservatives, they do have expiration dates ranging between 9-12 months depending on the product. Also, please remember that your fingers are a source of contaminants. Each time you reach into the container to take out some of our wonderful product, you will be exposing that product to bacteria and other contaminants. Additionally, please guard against introducing water into the product. Water encourages the growth of mold and bacteria.

Shea Butter has a naturally occurring latex that places an “active seal” on your skin. The moisture of your skin is retained while the Shea Butter protects from environmental factors, such as dirt and pollution. Your skin is nourished, moisturized and protected throughout the day. Shea Butter also provides light protection from the sun and works with your sunscreen by moisturising and protecting your skin from absorbing the sunscreen. We highly recommend you always take precautions when out in the sun for an extended period of time.

If you have a sensitivity or allergic reaction to latex, you may react to Shea Butter. Although the quantities of latex in Shea Butter are very small, this natural latex is responsible for its “sealing” properties. We recommend that first time users apply a small amount to the back of the hand prior to test for allergic reaction. In the unlikely event of a negative reaction, consult your medical practitioner.
